The Things They Carried - p.1-110
After reading about the first half of the book, I can say that I am not a huge fan of how the book was written. I find how each story was written to be dull and in a sense, monotone. I'm not making an attempt to downgrade the book as well as Tim O'Brien's experiences that he expresses through writing - I simply find the story unengaging. It might be the way there are separate stories but I find that it doesn't leave me wanting to read more. It ended up being more of a grueling task than an enjoyable book to read over Thanksgiving break. I feel like this is mainly because I enjoy having more climax or situations in the book where I have to use my head in order to understand the problem at hand as well as the characterization. I want to make it clear that I'm not accusing the book of being written in a way that does not compel the reader's to think, I just feel it does not make my own brain feel engaged or motivated to continue.
